The Flex Bucks Account is a voluntary account open to all IUB students, as well as, IU Staff and Faculty. Flex Bucks are accepted at all RPS dining locations and offer a 25% discount off cash/credit pricing. This account is valid for 18 months from the date of purchase.
Flex Bucks allow you to buy food for a discount at any RPS Dining location. You will find convenient dining locations all across campus including select academic buildings and popular national brand food options.
The Flex Bucks account is not tied to the Academic Calender or semester terms. So if you just want a one time purchase for a small amount, you can purchase a flex bucks account. The account will be valid for 18 months from the date of purchase.
The Flex Bucks account for students has a purchase price of $250. You can pay with a credit card or bill to your bursar account.

The Flex Bucks account for IU Faculty and Staff has a purchase price of $50. You can pay with a credit card. Appointed Staff can use Payroll deduction for a 1-time deduction.

Refunds are issued based on the payment method used at the time of purchase. In some cases, you may be offered a different option.

Account holders can use their Flex Bucks to make dining purchases at any of the RPS Dining Venues.
One Flex Buck equals one dollar and they are encoded on the account holders university ID card. The holder will receive a 25% discount off the published prices at the point of purchase.
For example, a student with a Flex Bucks account makes a purchase for $5.00 for a Starbucks coffee and a pastry. When your ID card is presented and swiped, 3.75 Flex Bucks will be deducted from their account.
Flex Bucks can only be accessed by use of your University ID card. It must be presented to a cashier and you should ask to use Flex Bucks to make the purchase. The card will be swiped and the remaining available balance will be available. Accounts can be managed through Online Services. You can purchase and refresh your I-Bucks 25 Flex account at any time (before or after your current account balance reaches zero.)
Flex I-Bucks account holders must let the cashier know they are paying with their Flex Bucks account. Cash and credit card purchases will not receive a discount.
The Operational Costs is assessed to cover administrative costs associated with setting up the account, additional hourly labor and supplies, to support the dining patrons.
Account holders will contribute 20% of the account cost to Operational costs, but receive a 25% discount at the register to offset the cash and credit prices.
That makes every Flex Buck equivalent to $1.33 in cash purchase power.
Frequently Asked Questions
I-BUCKS are the unit of currency for residential meal plans. I-Bucks are accepted in any of the locations managed by RPS. I-BUCKS are billed per semester and could have a 60% or 25% discount. I-BUCKS do carry over between semesters and you can add to them while your plan is active.
Flex Bucks are the unit of currency for Off Campus students and IUB Faculty Staff. Flex Bucks are accepted at any of the locations managed RPS. Flex bucks are billed up front and have a 25% discount. They are valid for 18 months from the time of purchase. You can renew the plan anytime and your 18 months will reset based on the most current purchase date.
Is there a cut-off date to choose Flex Bucks?
You may choose to add the Flex Bucks account at any time of the school/academic year, as long as you meet eligibility requirements. Any IUB student, as well as, any Indiana University faculty or staff member may purchase this account. When you choose to participate in the Flex Bucks program, you will be billed the full cost of the account value and receive all Flex Bucks at that time.
Your Flex Bucks account will activate at the time of your purchase. It will be valid for 18 months once the purchase is made. If you refresh your account, your expiration date will reset for a fresh 18 months.
These are separate plans and are not interchangeable. Both accounts are only accepted in RPS Dining venues.
However, you cannot convert one account to the other.
Students may refresh their Flex Bucks account with another $250 purchase. The account holder can do this before or after their balance reaches zero.
Staff may refresh your Flex Bucks account with another $50 purchase. The account holder can do this before or after their balance reaches zero.
The Flex Bucks accounts are sold online through a site managed by RPS. Each time you purchase a Flex Bucks account, 20% of that purchase price goes to support operational expenses for campus dining venues.
Each time you use Flex Bucks to make a purchase at any RPS Dining venues, you will receive a 25% discount off posted cash prices at the register.
Do Flex Bucks rollover?
Flex Bucks do not rollover after their expiration date.
However, all Flex Bucks purchased will remain available for 18 months after the most recent purchase transaction date. Flex Bucks can be used anytime campus dining venues are open for business during the calendar year.
For example, let's say Mike has purchased his Flex Bucks account on October 15th of his sophomore year. On February 15th of his junior year, Mike has 25 Flex Bucks remaining in his account. At that time, he purchases another Flex Bucks account; his 25 Flex Bucks are added to the new 400 Hoosier Bucks from the most recent purchase. His new balance is 425 Hoosier Bucks. These will be available to him through the end of his senior year.
What is the difference between Campus Access and Flex Bucks?
Flex Bucks are to be used for food, beverage, or convenience store purchases at any RPS managed campus dining venues; receiving a 25% discount off retail purchase prices for each transaction.
Campus Access is accepted at those same locations, as well as, many other local venues in town. The customer will be charged full retail in most instances. However, RPS does offer a 10% discount when using Campus Access accounts on purchases in their dining locations.
